This is an example of a scarce Triplett & Scott Carbine manufactured by the Meriden Manufacturing Company, Meriden, Connecticut between 1864-1865. Some 2000 22-inch barrel carbines were manufactured. The carbine has a blued barrel, rear sight, barrel band and barrel support. The forearm and stock are oil finished black walnut. The receiver, hammer, trigger guard and buttplate are casehardened. The carbine features a seven-round magazine and is loaded by twisting the barrel to align with the magazine on the lower left side of the receiver. The carbine has a folding leaf rear sight which lacks elevation markings. Sling swivels on both the toe and heel of the stock. The serial number, "1460" is stamped on the right side of the frame. The lower left side of the frame is marked "MERIDEN MAN'FG. CO. / MERIDEN, CONN.". The patent marking: "TRIPLETT & SCOTT / PATENT DEC. 6, 1864" is marked on the upper receiver tang.

Rating Definition:

Poor. The metal surfaces show signs of some cleaning and have a gray or brownish patina with some minor pitting on the receiver and frame. The rear sight and barrel band have minor pitting. The wood is very good with a few overall scattered minor dings and dents. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
