The carbine has a blued barrel and oiled walnut stock. The barrel is fitted with a three-leaf, folding, rear sight. The lock plate is marked: "JOSLYN FIRE ARMS CO. / STONINGTON CONN / 1864" ahead of the hammer. The rear of the breechblock is marked with the 1861 and 1862 patent dates and the serial number, "13592" is located on the top of the breechblock. The heel of the buttplate is marked: "US". The Joslyn was an effective and popular carbine that was widely issued to Federal Cavalry throughout the Civil War.

Rating Definition:

About good. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brownish patina with strong scattered traces of the original blue finish. The stock shows signs of some light sanding, has been revarnished and is good overall with five notches cut into the underside of the forearm and overall scattered minor dings, dents and nicks. The markings are clear. Mechanically fine.
