The top barrel flat is marked: "PATENTED SEPT. 14. 1858 / E.REMINGTON & SONS. ILION. NEW YORK. U.S.A / NEW-MODEL". The serial number is located on the bottom barrel flat and left side of the frame under the grip, both match. Small single letter "J" inspection mark on the left barrel flat, and on the frame in front of the cylinder and a "P" on the right side barrel flat, frame and cylinder. The two piece walnut grips with a faint boxed cartouche on the lower left panel.

Rating Definition:

Period refinished. The metal surfaces have a dark dip blue patina with scattered areas showing signs of some cleaning, strong traces of original finish and scattered minor pitting. The trigger guard has an aged patina. The grips are good with several tiny dings on the bottom of the right panel, some minor chips around the bottom edge, a moderate chip on the back of the right heel and a few minor dings. The markings are clear, except noted above. The action is fine.
