Description:

This particular Sharps cartridge conversion carbine has a blued barrel, casehardened barrel band, receiver, lock plate, lever, buttplate and an oil finished black walnut stock and forearm. Fixed iron block front sight with correct Lawrence patent rear sight. The left side barrel flat is marked "F" and "E. A.W.", the top is marked only "NEW MODEL", the remainder unreadable behind the sight and no other markings are visible. The receiver has three sets of markings, "R.S. LAWRENCE' PAT./APRIL 12th 1859." behind the hammer and "C. SHARPS' PAT./OCT. 5th 1852" in the middle of the lock plate both on the right as well as "C.SHARPS' PAT/SEPT. 12th 1848" on the left side of the receiver. It also has the Lawrence patent marks on the rear sight, saddle ring bar and ring on the left side of the stock wrist, a boxed script "EF" cartouche above the ring bar and "DFC" on the left side of the buttstock. The stock is correct without a patch box.

Rating Definition:

Arsenal refurbished with approximately 90% of the blue remaining on the barrel. There are a few areas of minor pitting on the barrel that have been finished over and some minor pitting on the rear sight. The remaining metal parts have a smooth dark patina. The wood is fine with a small chip on top of the wrist on each side, a small gouge and chip on the underside at the toe and a few overall minor dings and dents. The cartouches and markings, except noted above, are clear. Mechanically fine.
