A more historic object would be difficult to imagine. This flat hat is from the U.S.S. Maine and is a navy blue/black. The hat still has the gold embroidered black ribbon attached to the outside edge. The ribbon has "U.S.S. Maine" embroidered on it and also the expected large flat bow. On the inside edge is a thin leather sweatband. Also included is a photograph of the sunken ship in Havana harbor and a stereoscope card of the Maine's crew.

The condition of the hat is good. Fabric has no tears. The inside lining of the hat is water stained and discolored and the leather sweatband has some wear. The photograph of the sunken ship is in good condition with some discoloration and paper curves. The stereoscope card is in fair condition with some discoloration and fading. There is also some minor staining.
