Dated 1856, with a blade front sight, 3-leaf folding rear sight, "V/ P/ eagle head" on the barrel, "1855" on the tang, "1856" on the lock plate, with cleanout screw, standard Springfield markings, and the eagle on the Maynard primer cover. A faint cartouche is visible on the grip, with a iron swivel ramrod, brass fittings, "4" numbered buttcap and hardwood stock with brass hardware and sling swivel.
Fair, with moderate pitting around the nipple and scattered dings and spotting. Barrel and action show cleaning marks. Grip is repaired and revarnished, with a mended crack in the wrist and on the reverse, along with scratches, pressure dents and dark areas. Stock is good, with dings, scratches and a few spots of white paint. Brass shows an artificially aged patina. Primer cover latch is absent, otherwise the action functions.
