This particular revolver was manufactured in 1862 with pinned brass front and notch rear sights. The top of the barrel is marked "ADDRESS COL. COLT / NEW-YORK U.S.A.". Fluted cylinder marked "PATENTED SEPT 10th 1850". The hammer is mounted on the right side of the frame; it has a spur trigger and smooth one-piece walnut grips.

The revolver has the distinctive breech plate with a loading gate marked "1066", hammer with added centerfire pin and notch rear sight and a finger groove ejector rod head that is likely a replacement . Normally found with 8 inch barrels, this revolver has a 3 3/4 inch barrel that was likely cut to its current length by a private individual. The revolver had a blued barrel, ejector assembly, cylinder and iron back strap and trigger guard, casehardened frame and hammer and fitted with one-piece grips. The top of the barrel with the brass blade front sight is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. U.S.A.". The left side of the frame is marked "-PAT.JULY,25.1871- / -PAT.JULY,2.1872,-". The 6-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the Texas Navy scene with "44 CAL" marked on the left trigger guard shoulder. Matching serial number on barrel, frame, trigger guard and back strap with the partial serial number (949) marked on the cylinder.
