Two Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolvers

A) Colt Model 1849 Non-Factory Conversion Pocket Revolver

Manufactured in 1864. The top of the barrel flat has the marking: "ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA". The revolver has been converted to 32 rimfire. The 6-shot cylinder is roll-engraved with the Stagecoach holdup scene and has been cut at the rear with a breech plate added. The hammer has had a blade firing pin added to the right side. The loading lever has been removed and the barrel lug partially ground away. The cylinder is marked "COLT'S PATENT" and the partial serial number "56631". The left side of the frame is marked: "COLTS/PATENT" the left trigger bow is marked with a "7" and the shoulder is marked "31 CAL". The full serial number, "181761" is located on the barrel, frame, trigger guard and backstrap. Fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip.

ConditionFair as period modified. All metal surface are now a mottled gray/dark patina overall. The barrel shows handling marks and some heavy dings throughout. The frame, cylinder and hammer are now an even gray patina with dark spotting and some scattered handling marks and scuffs throughout. The brass has mellowed to an aged patina . The grips are fine with pressure marks and scuffs as well as museum numbering "1732" on the right stock. Provenance: The L.A. County Museum. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.

B) Colt Model 1849 Pocket Revolver

This revolver was produced in 1860. The top barrel flat is marked towards the breech "{ADDRESS SAMl COLT/ NEW YORK CITY} , "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame and the cylinder is roll engraved with the stagecoach holdup scene. The lower rear flat on the left side of the barrel is stamped with a "2", the left trigger bow marked "V" and the shoulder "M". Full matching serial numbers are marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and cylinder with partial serial number "2333" on the loading lever. Fitted with one piece smooth walnut grip.

ConditionGood. The entire revolver is now a mottled gray patina overall. The barrel shows patches of dark spotting around the muzzle and scattered down the length with a few handling marks and dings. The cylinder is now an even gray patina showing dings and handling marks. The frame retains no original case colors and is a smooth gray patina with evidence of cleaning on both sides. The brass is an aged mellow patina. The grips are good as revarnished displaying pressure marks and scuffs. Mechanically good. From the Will Hoffeld Collection.
