Colt Third Model Dragoon Percussion Revolver

Manufactured in 1858, this revolver is equipped with a brass blade front, two leaf rear and hammer notch sights. The recoil shield and butt are cut for a shoulder stock. Iron backstrap and brass trigger guard. There are no visible barrel markings, the left side of the frame is marked "COLTS / PATENT / U.S.", the cylinder is absent of any markings. The complete matching serial number is marked on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, backstrap and wedge. The loading lever is unmarked. The upper left front of the trigger guard bow is marked with a "1". The revolver is fitted with smooth one-piece walnut grips with a faint cartouche on the left side.

ConditionRefinished, assembled and restamped (frame and barrel serial numbers). The metal surfaces have an artificial brownish patina with scattered minor pitting. Most of the metal surfaces have been heavily cleaned and all but two screws have had the heads polished flat. As mentioned above the only visible marking are on the frame which are clear, the "US" is partially obscured by pitting. All but one percussion nipple has been replaced. The trigger guard retains approximately 70% of the original silver plating with the balance having an aged patina. The oversized replacement grips are good with scattered minor dings and dents and a hand rubbed patina. The action is good.
