Manufactured from 1878 to 1912. While the features introduced with the Number Three Target were popular, many shooters preferred the 44 Russian cartridge over the 38-44 and 32-44, and would special order New Number Threes with similar fittings to get the best of both worlds. Raised bead front and adjustable notch rear sight, with the later one line Smith & Wesson address on the rib flanked by Maltese crosses. Checkered casehardened hammer, matching numbers on the barrel, latch, cylinder and butt, and a blue trigger guard with added #3 Russian-style finger spur. Grips are checkered hard rubber, with Smith & Wesson logos at the top.

Excellent, with a[[rpxo,ate;u 90-95% of the original bright blue finish, showing a bright gray patina along the edges, scattered areas of brown concentrated on the cylinder, and mild handling marks overall. The spur on the trigger is a professionally installed later upgrade. Grips are excellent, with mild pressure dents and a few areas of lightened color. Mechanically excellent.
