A) Ketland Flintlock Pistol

Description:

Marked in script "Ketland / & Co" on the lock plate in front of the hammer, the top of the barrel is marked with two "crown / cross swords" proofs. The trigger, lock, barrel tang, hammer, frizzen, pan and spring are iron, the remaining parts are brass. Complete with iron ramrod with brass tip.

Rating Definition:

Good with the metal surfaces exhibiting a mottled gray patina. The brass has a smooth dark aged patina. The markings are clear. The wood is very good with some minor scratches and nicks. There is a large shallow chip on the left side near the muzzle. The hammer is a little loos, otherwise the action is good. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from Betty Cryst in 1988..

Description:

Manufactured circa 1750-1770. The left rear of the barrel is marked with an anchor and a very faint "17" near the upper tang screw. Squared off pan, pointed rear lock plate marked "H.V", early goose neck hammer, plain brass buttplate that runs up the sides of the grip, all brass mounts. With wooden ramrod with brass button tip.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces exhibit a smooth dark patina and the brass exhibits a smooth dark aged patina. There is limited pin prick pitting near the muzzle and a gouge near the anchor marking. The wood is good with a couple of minor gouges, some minor nicks and scratches and some light chips. There is a light period craving ("1760") near the trigger. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased at the Las Vegas show, 1986 from Mitch Tuksick.
