Description:

Manufactured in early 1906, the second year of production, this pistol has the high polish Colt commercial blue finish, casehardened round hammer and checkered walnut grips. The trigger, extractor and grip screws have a niter blue finish. The seven-shot magazine is blued and unmarked. The right side of the slide is marked: "AUTOMATIC COLT/ CALIBRE 45 RIMLESS SMOKELESS" in two lines ahead of the ejection port. The opposite side of the slide is marked "PATENTED / APR.20.1897.SEPT.9.1902.DEC.19.1905" in two lines followed by: "COLT'S PATENT FIRE ARMS MFG. CO. / HARTFORD. CONN. U.S.A." in two lines ahead of the slide serrations. The encircled Rampant Colt trademark is located on the left side of the slide behind the serrations. The serial number is located on the left side of the frame above the trigger guard bow. The left side of the trigger guard is stamped with the Verified Proof mark. The accompanying factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length, finish with the grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 5 to Honeyman Hardware Company, Portland, Oregon on February 28, 1906. The Model 1905 Pistol was direct predecessor to the Colt Model 1911 Pistol. Produced for a short period and in limited numbers the Model 1905 Automatic is an essential piece for any advanced Colt or automatic pistol collection.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains approximately 85-90% of the original finish with wear on the front, rear and right side of the slide, high edge wear and thinning on the grip straps which show some smooth gray patina. There is a small amount of pin prick type pitting on the right front of the slide. The high points of the rear sight are a smooth gray. The trigger and extractor show almost all of the original fire blue finish. The hammer retains 95% fading but vivid case colors. The grips are excellent with a couple of nicks in the checkering on the left panel, minor wear and crisp checkering. The markings remain crisp and clear. Mechanically excellent.
