A) Colt New House Revolver in 41 Caliber with British Proofs

Description:

Manufactured in 1884. Blade front sight on barrel marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. / DEPOT 14, PALL MALL LONDON". The left side of the barrel is unmarked. The cylinder is marked with "crown / V" and "crown / GP" proofs that alternate on the flutes and the left side of the frame below the cylinder is marked "A". Fitted with checkered hard rubber grips with "COLT" in an oval on the top.

Rating Definition:

Partially refinished (rear of cylinder) with balance fine. The frame and grip straps retain approximately 40% of the original blue finish mixed with the beginnings of a smooth silver patina. The barrel exhibits a brown mottled patina and the cylinder has strong amounts of blue in the flues with a mixture of brown mottled patina and the beginnings of a smooth silver patina. The grips are fine with a few slight handling mark. The marking is clear. The action is fine. From the Will Hoffeld collection, purchased from Frank Day (Apr. 1956).

Description:

Manufactured in 1881, the second year of production. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two-line Colt Hartford address, the September 1874 patent date is marked on the underside of the barrel, "COLT NEW 38" is etched on the left side of the barrel and "38 CAL C" is marked on the left side of the frame. Fixed blade front sight with notched rear sight and five round fluted cylinder. Nickel plated with niter blue spur trigger and hammer top edge. Fitted with hard rubber checkered grips with "COLT" in an oval at the top.

Rating Definition:

Good with heavy amounts of flaking nickel plating remaining on the rear portion of the frame and back strap. The rest of the metal surfaces exhibit a mottled silver patina. There is pin prick pitting. The rear of the trigger is missing. Slight traces of the side barrel marking remain. The action needs work. The grips are very good with a few light nicks in the overall sharp checkering and slight fading. From the Will Hoffeld collection, purchased from Antique Traders (Feb. 1959).
