Two Marlin Lever Action Rifles

A) Marlin Model 1893 Take Down Lever Action Rifle

Manufactured between 1893 and 1935. The two line address/patent dates is marked on the top barrel flat and "SPECIAL SMOKELESS STEEL" on the left rear flat, with "MARLIN SAFETY" on top of the receiver and "MODEL / 1893" on the upper tang. Casehardened receiver, hammer, lever and buttplate, blue barrel and magazine.

ConditionGood. The metal surfaces exhibit a balance between a smooth dark patina and a smooth gray patina and a dark mottled patina on the round part of the barrel. There is a small area of moderate pitting on the receiver. The freshened stock is very good with some minor to moderate scratches and nicks and a few moderate gouges. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from Drake Bernete in 1977.

B) Marlin Model 1897 Lever Action Rifle

Manufactured between 1897 and 1917. Full length tube magazine, metal forend and plain straight grip stock with black hard rubber Marlin buttplate. The top barrel flat is marked with the two-line Marlin address and four patent dates ending on March 1, 1892. Case colored receiver is marked "MARLIN SAFETY" and the upper tang is marked "MODEL 1897".

ConditionFair. The metal surfaces exhibit a balance between a smooth dark patina and a dark mottled patina. There is heavy pin point pitting on the barrel and magazine tube. The wood is fair with a few large chips at the toe (the toe of the buttplate is missing) and some minor to moderate scratches, chips, dings and dents overall. The wrist is ill fitting with a minor crack and a couple of large chips. From the Will Hoffeld Collection, purchased from John Deeken in 1977.
