Manufactured from 1879 to 1886 with a total production estimated at 15,000. Top flat of barrel marked "WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY, CT. U.S.A." ahead of the rear sight and "45-60" directly behind the sight at the breech, two line patent marking on the upper tang and the serial number on the lower tang under the "S" shaped lever. Blade front sight, sporting rear sight and full length tube magazine. Smooth forend with an iron cap, straight grip stock and iron buttplate with sliding butt trap.

Good with the metal surfaces having a smooth gray patina and a mottled gray patina. There are two small nicks on the right side of the barrel. The stock and forearm are good with some minor scratches, dings and dents and some minor to moderate gouges. The tang marking is beginning to fade. The barrel markings are clear.
