This is a fine example of an original military proofed Third Model Brown Bess Musket. Bayonet lug front sight and shallow groove rear sight, with a "crown/ GP/ arrow" and four other proofs on the upper left side and "crown/ 14" on the tang behind the screw. Lightly border engraved lockplate, with the early style goose neck hammer, "TOWER" vertically at the rear and King George III's "crown/ GR" royal cypher in front, along with the "crown / broad arrow" army property mark. Smooth straight grip stock, with brass forearm tip, ramrod pipes, triggerguard, reverse plate and butt, an iron ramrod with flared tip and threaded shank, unmarked reverse plate, sling swivels and flat butt. With a 17" triangular spike bayonet, marked "crown/ 46", "DEAKIN" and "TR", 4" socket and a brass fitted leather sheath .
Fine. Some light spotting and traces of a brown patina are visible on the very good original barrel, with some mild dings and handling marks. Very fine stock, with exception of an arsenal patched wood piece on the right side of the forearm. Mechanically fine.
