This is an example of the Model 1861 Type I Musket manufactured from 1819 to 1822. Marked "HARPERS / FERRY / 1819" vertically at the rear of the lock plate with the eagle/shield above "US" between the hammer and the pan. The left side of the barrel has the "V / P / eagle head" proofs and the barrel date 1819. The top of the barrel is marked "A / b / 74". Smooth straight grip stock with ramrod, two faint cartouches on the reverse of the action and "US" marked buttplate.

Rating Definition:

Good as reconverted to flintlock. The barrel barrel shows evidence of being cleaned at one time and is now beginning to age again with a mottled gray patina from the breech to the rear barrel band. The front and middle barrel bands and buttplate exhibit a smooth dark patina, with the rest of the metal surfaces exhibiting the patina found on the barrel. There is extremely limited pin point pitting. The freshened stock is very good with some minor to moderate scratches and some minor dings and dents. Unless noted above, the markings are clear and crisp.
