Deluxe Winchester Model 1876 Lever Action Sporting Rifle

Manufactured in 1884, this is a solid deluxe Winchester 1876 Third Model rifle with the integral dust cover rail on top of the receiver. The top barrel flat is marked "WINCHESTER'S - REPEATING ARMS.NEW HAVEN. CT./ KING'S-IMPROVEMENT - PATENTED-MARCH 29. 1866. OCTOBER 16. 1860." ahead of the rear sight and "CAL. 40-60" at the breech end. The brass cartridge elevator is engraved "40-60", the upper tang is marked "-{MODEL 1876}-" flanked by fancy brackets and the serial number appears on the lower tang behind the lever latch. The front sight is a dove tailed German silver blade with ivory bead and an adjustable buckhorn rear sight. Full magazine and checkered forearm and pistol grip stock with a steel forend cap and steel shotgun style buttplate.

ConditionVery good plus. The barrel and magazine have traces of blue with the balance a smooth mottled brown patina. There is some strong traces of the original faded case colors on the receiver (mainly in the protected areas) with the balance having silvered out. The left side plate and the toe of the buttplate have some minor pitting. The wood is fine with almost all of the finish remaining, only a few minor dents and dings, and crisp checkering. The markings remain clear. The action is excellent.
