Description:

The left side of the slide is marked with the two block, two line patent dates and Hartford address with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations and "MODEL OF 1911 U.S. ARMY" on the right. The top of the barrel is marked "P" and "H", with an additional "H" on the rear of the slide. The pistol is without the "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" right frame marking and Colt trigger bow verification marking. The right trigger guard bow is marked "K". Checkered slide stop, thumb safety and wide spur hammer. Fitted with a two-tone magazine with lanyard loop on the bottom and diamond checkered grips. The included Colt factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber and barrel length, with the type of stocks not listed. The letter states that the pistol was shipped to the U.S. Commanding General D.C. Militia in Washington, D.C. on 21 July 1914. In the included 2005 dated Colt Collectors Association letter, historian Lowell E. Pauli concludes that this pistol failed an inspection in the production process, and was reworked during production. It is likely that the frame proved faulty during the testing process and an unmarked frame from the production line was obtained. The property marking and serial number were rolled on at the same time. To not interrupt regular production, the current frame was stamped with a regular serial number die on a different machine, missing the U.S. property rolling process. The pistol was then tested again, but because it was out of sync with the rest of production it either missed final inspection or missed getting the inspector's mark.

Rating Definition:

Factory refinished with approximately 75% of the blue finish remaining with some moderate edge wear on the slide and moderate slide wear. There is a smooth gray patina on the grip safety and grip straps. The United States Property was removed prior to the finish process and there is a faint shadow of where it once was (see above speculation). There are a few minor patches of smooth gray patina on the slide. The grips are excellent with some minor nicks and a few light chips. The checkering is sharp. The markings are clear.
