Description:

This is an exceptional example of a Colt Model 1911 pistol manufactured in 1918. The pistol features a Colt high polished blue finish with fixed blade front and notch rear sights, checkered slide stop release, magazine release button and thumb safety, wide hammer with checkered spur and short grip safety. It is furnished with a blue unmarked flat base magazine. The left side of the frame is marked "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" ahead of the trigger guard and the "eagle head / S11" inspector mark is above the magazine release button. The right side of the frame has the serial number behind the slide stop hole and the left side of the slide has the Rampant Colt flanked by the Colt 1897-1913 patent dates in a two-line block and two-line block Colt Hartford address. The right side of the slide is marked "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY" forward of the ejection port. Blue barrel marked with a small "H" and "U", flat mainspring housing and a lanyard loop mounted on the heel. Fitted with diamond checkered walnut grips. The accompanying factory letter confirms the serial number, caliber, barrel length, finish with stocks as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped to the U.S. Government, Springfield Armory, Springfield, Ma. on May 23, 1918 as one of 4,200.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains 99% blue finish with the slightest wear on the muzzle end of the slide, a couple of light minor scratches on the slide and the slightest handling marks. There is some minor wear on the chamber area of the barrel. The grips are excellent with a few overall scattered minor dings, bruises and handling marks and sharp checkering. All markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. An exceptionally nice Colt Model 1911 pistol that would be difficult to improve on.
