Description:

Marked "1861 " on the barrel tang, "H&P" on the top of the barrel behind the rear sight and "REMINGTON'S / ILION, N.Y. / 185? / U.S." vertically behind the hammer. The left rear of the barrel is marked with a large "N J" and an "N". Approximately 2,000 of these muskets were converted for New Jersey. Equipped with the Maynard priming device, bayonet lug on top of the barrel, front sight integral to the front double barrel band, and three leaf folding rear sight. One piece full stock with three barrel bands, trigger guard riveted to the trigger guard plate, iron ramrod with trumpet head and iron buttplate marked "U S" on the tang.

Rating Definition:

Fair. The barrel and trigger guard have a gray patina with some very heavy pitting on the bolster, rear sight and surrounding area on the barrel. The bolster clean out screw is marred and the nipple appears to be original to the gun with some battering on the top. The lock and buttplate have a dark mottled patina with some pitting and oxidation on the heel and tang. The primer door spring is sprung and the door doesn't stay closed. The stock is about good with a 4 inch hairline crack on the right side of the buttstock and overall minor gouges, dents, chips and scratches associated with a gun of this age. The stock remains solid. The bore is fair with overall light rust. Except noted above, the markings are legible. The action is fine.
