The work of John Montigny, best known for the development of the Mitrailleuse Battery Gun. Derived from the work of Swiss inventor John Samuel Pauley, the breechblock is operated by a lever extending down the upper tang, which is lifted up to bring the block back for loading and cock the exposed hammer ahead of the trigger guard. Blade front and two leaf, two aperture rear sight, with the bolt marked "MONTIGNY EN FUSNOT/ A BRUXELLES". Scroll engraving is present on the breech, lever, frame, tangs and trigger guard. Checkered straight grip stock, with scroll carvings at the tip, sling rings, a flat butt, sling swivels and a 19 inch folding spike bayonet fitted to the underside of the forearm.

Rating Definition:

Good, with a mottled brown and gray patina on the barrel and frame. The stock is refinished, with visible crack on the left side below the breech and at the buttplate, along with some scattered pressure dents and spotting. Action is very good.
