Description:

This unique left handed flintlock rifle was reportedly manufactured by Andrew Dolep of London circa 1690. The rifle features a screw off swamped barrel with a pronounced ring at the muzzle with four bead sights. The large round iron frame is threaded at the breech and has four 44 caliber chambers. The chambers are loaded and the barrel is then screwed on. The barrel and frame are manually rotated firing each chamber separately. There is a small trigger/lever located ahead of the action trigger which releases the frame for manual rotation. This design is very similar to the three shot flintlock pistols that were made by Dolep in the late 1600s. There are no markings on the rifle. The rifle is equipped with a large iron hammer, flashpan, frizzen and spring. Mounted with a large thick straight grip stock with a massive iron trigger guard, iron buttplate and a carved wooden patch box lid.

Rating Definition:

Very good. The metal surfaces have been cleaned bright with some minor pitting on the breech end of the barrel and on the trigger guard. The stock has had a coat of varnish applied some time ago and remains good with a small filled repair on the left front of the comb and a few overall minor dents and dings. The mechanics are fine, but the breech does not rotate freely.
