Rare North & Savage Percussion Revolving Rifle

Although referred to as the North & Skinner revolving rifle, these rifle were actually manufactured by North and Savage of Middletown, Connecticut circa 1856 to 1859. It is estimated that a total of 600 were produced. The 6-shot cylinder revolved, locked into position and hammer cocked by a downward motion of combination trigger guard and cocking lever. The barrel has a blade front sight and a notch rear sight (partially broken), with "NORTH & SAVAGE MIDDLETOWN CONN" faintly marked on the top flat, "CAST STEEL" on the upper left flat and "PATENTED JUNE 1 1852" on the upper right flat. Mounted on a smooth straight grip stock with crescent buttplate.

ConditionFair. The rifle has a smooth gray patina with minor pitting. The upper tang is missing a screw. The stock is good with a couple minor cracks on the left side of the wrist and some minor dings and scratches. Mechanically needs work (the action rotates the cylinder, but the hammer will not stay in the firing position). The barrel was shortened during period of usage.
