Scarce Warner Open Frame Revolving Carbine

Manufactured circa 1849, with total quantity estimated between 50 and 100. The most obvious external feature distinguishing this grooved cylinder type carbine from the other Warner open frame versions is the long hook type cylinder release latch located ahead of the trigger, passing through the front of the trigger guard. The manually rotating 6-shot grooved cylinder is non-retracting, with no visible etching. The serial number is faintly marked on the underside of the frame. The carbine has no visible maker markings. Fixed notched rear sight, with the front sight removed. Mounted on a plain straight grip stock with crescent buttplate and "F.A.R. / *9*" finely carved on the right side near the brass patch box.

ConditionFair. The metal surfaces have been draw filed/polished bright with a protective coating applied at one time. There is some minor pitting on the cylinder and frame and the top strap has a repair. The barrel is slightly loose. There are a few hairline cracks near the frame. Otherwise the stock is fine with some minor dings and scratches and a few cracks along the grain near the slightly oversized buttplate. Mechanically functions, but is very loose.
