This is an excellent example of an earlier pattern Model 1896/41 sniper rifle that is fitted with the late production improved mount and Ajacks scope. This series of rifle was the last and final version of the 1896 sniper rifle and was still in use and held in war reserve until the 1970/80s. The top of the receiver is marked "Crown C /WAFFENFABRIK/MAUSER/OBERNDORF/ a/n/1900". The rifle is fitted with the late pattern improved short side rail with the correct two alignment/reinforcing pins with the three base screws and small locking screws. It also has the addition of the mount stop on the front end of the base that was only found on the late production rifles. The rifle is fitted with the correct prewar German short side rail pattern mount with a matching serial number (42404) fitted with the late style German Ajacks 4X scope. The base of the elevation knob is marked with the small "Swedish Crown Proof/Nr. 2447/1942B" and the obverse is marked "AJACKS 4X90" and it has the correct sniper scope range scale on top of the elevation dial. The scope is complete with a set of original leather lens caps and the original aluminum scope carrying can and shoulder strap, with the can numbered on the end to the rifle. The rifle has the standard military style blade front sight and the rear sight is the later pattern adjustable rear diopter sight. It has the full length military stock and short hand guard with the brass bore wear plate on the right side of the butt stock. It is complete with an original Swedish leather sling, cleaning rod, and front sight cover.

Excellent with approximtely 95% of the original blue finish with wear and some thinning on the edges and high spots, the floor plate and trigger guard. The Scope base, mount and scope all retain 97% of the original blue finish and the mount and base match the rifle. The scope has crystal clear optics and the elevation knob works correctly. The leather lens caps are in very good condition with tight stitching but showing wear overall. The stock and hand guard are in fine condition showing numerous light pressure dents and dings overall from field use, with a couple of heavier dents on the left side from a rifle rack. Mechanically excellent. The scope can is in excellent condition with 90% of the green painted finish with general wear on the edges and lid. The rifle has matching numbers on the scope base, mount and bolt, with the other components being mismatched.
