This is a very nice example of a WWI 1896 Mauser Red 9 Broomhandle pistol, that is complete with an original (although non-matching) wooden combination shoulder stock/holster and the original leather carrying harness. The right side of the barrel/upper receiver area has a small Crown over Script D proof, while the left side has a small Crown over U commercial proof. The underside of the barrel is stamped with various Mauser sub inspector proofs. The top of the chamber is marked: "WAFFENFABRIK / MAUSER / OBERNDORF A/N." with the left side flat having the early four digit serial number. The combination wooden shoulder stock/holster has a very small Crown/Letter proof on the left side and the attaching iron is numbered "804". It has the standard sight with the rear sight graduated from 50-500 meters. It is fitted with matching walnut grips with 24 grooves that have the large "9" burned into each side that have been filled with red paint. The pistol has the pre-war rust blued finish with heat blued finish on the various small parts. The leather carrying harness is marked "HUSE BERLIN/1917" and it is complete with the original walnut cleaning rod. The various pistol parts of the pistol have matching serial numbers including the grips.
