This is an example of a WWI US Army contract S&W Model 1917 revolver. These were manufactured from 1917 to 1946 and were standard issue during WWI and were reissued during WWII and Korea. The top of the barrel is marked with the standard two line address/patent date information, with the underside being stamped with the "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" markings, and the left side marked, "S.&W. D.A. 45". The butt is marked, "U.S./ ARMY / MODEL / 1917 / No /66686". The left side rear of the frame in front of the hammer has the "flaming bomb" proof, with the correct "Eagle Head S" proofs on the rear end of the trigger guard, the assembly number on the yoke, the rear face of the cylinder and an "eagle head" on the bottom of the barrel. They features a fixed half-moon front sight with a frame notch rear sight, a checkered casehardened spur hammer, smooth trigger, lanyard ring swivel on the butt and smooth two-piece walnut grips. The serial number on the cylinder, barrel and butt all match. Complete with an original WWI, 1917 dated G&K Company leather holster that is marked with the large US embossed on the front.

Rating Definition:

Excellent with approximately 95% of the original blue finish remaining with wear on the front edges of the cylinder, both sides of the muzzle and front area of the barrel from being in a holster and there is a distinct cylinder drag line with some very light thinning on the grip straps. The grips are in excellent condition showing only minor handling marks. The holster is in very good condition with tight stitching and clear markings with some slight staining on the front of the holster below the flap with light scratches and scuffing overall. The flap and belt loop shows heavy scuffing of the leather and have lost their brown color and showing minor age cracking.
