These rifles were produced in the mid-late 1960s under contract to the US Army and were used as the standard target rifle for all small bore shooting competitions during that time. This rifle has the later pattern heavy weight barrel and the left side of the receiver ring is marked "U.S. PROPERTY / .22 LONG RIFLE" over the serial number. The left receiver side wall is marked "REMINGTON MODEL 40-X" the right rear side of the barrel is marked with the typical Remington barrel proofs and the left side is marked with the barrel date-lot code marking "? LG 47". The rifle is equipped with a large globe front sight and receiver mounted Redfield Olympic target sight. There is a scope rail mounted on the barrel and rear of the receiver. The stock is the standard heavy walnut prone-style and the forend has the black anodized hand stop rail and hand stop on the underside, sling swivels and the standard rubber buttplate marked" WHITE - LINE".

Excellent. The rifle retains 98% of the original blue finish with a couple of minor scuffs on the barrel, a small area of minor thinning on the underside of the barrel and some thinning and edge wear on the trigger guard. The stock is excellent with a few overall scattered minor dings and handling marks. The buttplate shows some chipping and deteriorating on the heel and toe. The markings are sharp and clear. The action is excellent.
