This is a mid-production WWII Modified Model 1903 Remington Rifle. These rifles were produced as a war expedient method using the old tooling and machinery from Rock Island Arsenal. The top of the receiver is marked "US / REMINGTON / MODEL 1903" over the serial number. It has the "S" style straight grip rifle stock, the left side has a crossed cannon and "RLB" cartouches, sub-inspector proofs in front of the trigger guard and a single circle "P" proof in the underside behind the trigger guard over the letter "Q". The barrel bands, rear sight assemble bolt and barrel bands are all marked with the "R" for Remington Arms. Complete with a leather sling marked "R-S / G.M.S.".
