Description:

The Sharps rifles and carbines were among the most iconic firearms of the antebellum era, Civil War, and Old West. This carbine was manufactured in 1863-1865 as a breech loading percussion carbine under government contract during the Civil War and is one of approximately 27,000 carbines converted by Sharps under contract c. 1867 to .50-70 centerfire using three-groove lined barrels and refurbished, including fitting a stock without a patchbox. Many of these carbines would have continued to see use in the late 19th century in the West, and this carbine certainly has the look, including an "S" carved on the right side of the wrist.

Rating Definition:

Good as arsenal refurbished and "frontier issued" with some blue finish, dark patina, some pitting, and mild overall wear. The wood is also good and has a distinct "S" carving, slightly worn cartouche on the wrist, distinct "DFC" cartouche from the conversion, a crack in the toe, and mild wear. Mechanically excellent.
