Description:

Colt Model 1851 London Navy revolver manufactured in 1856. This Second Model London Model 1851 Navy revolver has the distinctive steel back strap and large oval trigger guard. The hammer spur has the bordered knurling found on London Navy hammers. The cylinder is roll engraved with the Texas Navy battle scene and marked with the crown "V" and "GP" proof alternating between the nipple recesses. The barrel, cylinder, trigger guard and back strap are blued, the loading lever, frame and hammer are casehardened and the one-piece walnut grip is varnished. The top barrel flat is marked "-ADDRESS COL. COLT LONDON-" and the left side of the lug is marked with the crown "V" and "GP" proof marks. The left side of the frame is marked "COLTS/PATENT". The matching serial number is stamped on the loading lever, frame, trigger guard, back strap and cylinder, with the partial number "1587" on the wedge and "587" on the arbor pin.

Rating Definition:

Good. The metal surfaces have a dark mottled patina with traces of original blue finish in protected areas. There is some minor pitting on the barrel and forward edge of the cylinder and some scattered minor oxidation. The cylinder scene is mostly visible. With the exception of a large chip on the left side toe, the grip is good with 90% original varnish, some lower edge wear and a few minor dings and dents. The cylinder doesn't always rotate when the hammer is cocked. The markings are clear.
