Manufactured in 1879 this is an example of a Second Model 1873 Rifle with the dust cover guide secured to the receiver with two screws. The two line Winchester address/patent dates marking is stamped ahead of the rear sight and "V. KINDLER East Saginaw" is stamped near the breech. Replacement blade front sight with folding white dot. Sporting type rear sight, full length magazine and no caliber markings. The upper tang is stamped "MODEL 1873" and the lower tang has the serial number. Smooth straight grip stock with an iron forend cap and crescent buttplate. Included is a Kindler catalog. V. Kindler was established in 1867 in East Saginaw as a retailer and wholesaler of firearms and ammunition. Kindler had one of the largest sporting goods stores in the State of Michigan.

Refinished. The rifle has an artificial brown-gray patina with some very scattered pin point pitting. The wood has a few minor handling marks with a repair at the wrist. Mechanically fine.
