This is an example of a Second Model Allin Conversion Trapdoor rifle manufactured in 1866 with a total production of 25,000. The lock is dated "1862" behind the hammer and marked with the eagle shield motif and "U.S./SPRINGFIELD" ahead of the hammer. The left rear of the barrel is marked "3" just ahead of the breech, with an "S" and eagle head directly ahead of the stock. Casehardened lock, with the remaining surfaces bright, two-piece trigger guard with a sling swivel mounted on the front, iron ramrod with serrated and slotted head and mounted with a full walnut stock with three barrel bands, "US" marked buttplate and clear "HLH" cartouche on the left flat.
