Outstanding Exceptionally Rare Early WWII Mauser G-41 (M) Mauser Semi-Automatic Rifle

This is a nice example of a very rare early WWII German G-41(M) rifle as manufactured by the Mauser factory. This style of rifle was produced in 1941, in response to a request by the German Weapons office, for the development of a semi-automatic rifle, that had to be charged in the style of the 98K bolt Acton rifle. Consequently these rifles don't have the traditional sliding cocking handle, on the right side of the receiver, but instead use the standard 98K style bolt handle to initially cock the rifle. These rifles used the early "Bang" gas trap gas system that utilizes a muzzle cone on the end of the barrel to trap gas and cycle the action. During the cycling of the action, this 98K style bolt handle/assembly is disengaged and the rifle functions in a normal gas-operated style, that uses the gas trapped in the muzzle cone, to cycle the operating rod located under the barrel. The actual bolt is constructed in two pieces with a rotating bolt head with dual locking lugs, with a machined top cover. The cylindrical receiver is marked on top, with the small "Eagle 135" proof over "G-41(M) over 1942" with the actual serial number of the rifle stamped on the left side of the rear sight base. At the time this rifle was manufactured it featured the tried and true all machined parts and assemblies, such as the trigger guard, and box magazine. The walnut stock is fitted with a cupped steel butt plate and short walnut top handguard and is fitted with an original WWII leather sling. These are a very rare rifle today, as they were produced in very small numbers, they were time consuming and complicated to manufacture as the parts were machined and hand fitted and most all of them saw considerable use throughout the war, especially on the eastern front.

ConditionVery fine as partially restored (Stock, see description) with 95% plus of the original blue finish overall with the front barrel band having been nicely refinished, with minor edge and high spot wear overall, with slightly more finish loss around the edges of the box magazine. The stock is in very fine revarnished condition, with no handling marks, with only the serial number stamped on the underside of the stock. The very front portion of the stock has been replaced, however it matches the rest of the stock very nicely. All the visible numbers on this rifle match except the barrel bands which are unnumbered. A very nice example of a very scarce early WWII G41(m) rifle as produced by the Mauser factory.
