Description:

This is an example of a late war production K98 rifle as manufactured by the Gustloff Werke, Weimer and later reworked in East Germany. Hooded front and tangent rear sights with the rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. The top of the receiver is marked with the "bcd" wartime code for the Gustloff Werke at Weimar and "4" for the year of manufacture, with the right side marked with a number "1" along with two Nazi proofmarks and the left side is marked with a Nazi firing proof. The left rear of the barrel is marked with an East German final eagle proof and a "crown/U" East German inspection proof with the top of the barrel at the breech marked with a triangle over an illegible mark. Milled front barrel band and floor plate and stamped trigger guard and middle barrel band. The rifle is fitted with a "dow" coded Opticotechna, Czechoslovakian scope mounted on a long rail system on the left side of the receiver. The scope has the rotating center ring for elevation adjustments with settings from 1 to 8 and is marked "dow" and "+" on the top near the eye piece. The stock and handguard are the correct "bcd" produced laminated wartime versions and the stock is stamped with an eagle over "H" (designating Army issue) on the right side and "2669" (double stamped) on the left side.

Rating Definition:

Arsenal reworked. The rifle retains 97% of the blue finish on the receiver and a smooth mottled gray patina on the barrel. The very good stock has been heavily varnished and shows scattered nicks, dents and scratches. The scope is fine, retaining 90% finish and clear optics. The proofs on the receiver are faint, otherwise the markings are clear. The action is excellent.
