This is an all original example of a 1900 American Eagle commercial contract Luger pistol. These pistols were the true first commercial contract pistols and can be found in the serial number range of 2,000-19,000. This specific pistol is an exceptionally early example bearing the serial number "2015", which means it's serial number "15". These pistols were intended for sales outside of Europe, specifically for the US market. This model has the highly desirable American Eagle markings on top of the chamber with the DWM markings on the front toggle. This pistol has all the early desirable Luger features, such as the early long frame, dished toggles with toggle lock, recessed breechblock, 4 3/4 inch tapered barrel, grip safety and bright polished safety area. It has the correct commercial style serial number placement with the full number on the underside of the barrel and front of the frame with the partial number on the various small parts. Directly below the frame serial number it is marked "GERMANY" indicating that it was intended for export. As noted this Luger is fitted with the very desirable "Ideal" telescoping steel and leather shoulder stock that was patented and produced in the mid 1902-1907 timeframe. This stock was developed prior to the development of the integral stock lug by the German military on the back of the Luger frame. To attach the stock each pistol was fitted with a set of smooth walnut grips with the metal back plate that had cutouts which engaged a set of hooks on the front end of the telescoping metal portion of the stock. There is a small button on top of the metal frame that allows the stock to be extended an additional 4 inches, giving it an overall length of 14 inches. The center section of the stock has a leather holster to carry the pistol and the back side of the frame has a spring loaded metal belt loop. Both sides of the metal frame are marked "PATENTS PENDING". This Luger is complete with a nickel plated magazine with the wood base.

Very fine as partially refinished with 75% plus of the original blue finish remaining with the side plate having an old professional refinish which has nicely aged and matches the rest of the pistol. The various small parts retain 60% of their straw colors, with more of the finish loss on the face of the trigger. The Walnut Ideal grips are in very good condition overall with some minor handling marks, scratches and one minor compression dent on the right side. The ideal holster itself is in good to very good condition with the leather holster itself showing age cracking overall with some actual loss of the face of the leather in a couple of areas. The telescoping Ideal metal stock also retains 40% of it's original blued finish, mostly on the left upper spring/belt loop mechanism, with the balance of the metal stock section having turned a gray patina overall. The Luger pistol itself has matching numbers on the various parts except the magazine (as noted above) and the Ideal walnut grips. Still a very nice example of a scarce and desirable early 1900 American Eagle Luger pistol.
