Description:

This is an exceptionally nice example of an excellent 1917 dated WWI DWM Artillery Luger pistol. These pistols have always been a favorite of collectors because of the uniqueness of the long barrel and the detachable wood board stock (when available). These pistols provided a light and highly accurate, rifle substitute, that was easy for Artillery crews to carry in the field. The top of the chamber is dated 1917 with the "DWM" monogram on the front toggle. The right side of the chamber has the three "crown/gothic letter" proofs next to the "Imperial Eagle" firing proof, which is repeated on the barrel. It has the full serial number on the front of the frame, left side of the barrel extension and underside of the barrel with the last two digits of the serial number on the various small parts. The extractor and safety are correctly marked; "GESICHERT" and "GELADEN" and it has the standard front sight with the artillery style tangent rear sight that is graduated from 1-8 (100-800) meters. The Luger is complete with one nickel plated magazine with wooden base that is numbered "9731/l/+".

Rating Definition:

Excellent with 90% plus of the original blued finish overall with wear on the edges and high spots, thinning on the barrel with some spotting on the grip straps. There is the number "7927" electro penciled on left side of barrel forward of sight base. The various small parts retain 70% of their original straw colors overall. The grips are both in excellent condition with nice sharp checkering on both sides with slight wear overall. The pistol has all matching numbers except the magazine as noted above and the grips were are unnumbered. An excellent example of a desirable WWI German Artillery Luger pistol.
