Description:

This is a fine example of an early Mauser, "K" date code military Luger pistol. The "K Date" P.08 Lugers were manufactured by Mauser for the German Army in 1934 and represent the very first true German Army contract pistol. The "K" was developed as a secret wartime code by the Mauser factory to conceal the fact that Germany was rearming in violation of the Treaty of Versailles. These early Wehrmacht P.08 pistols have an extremely low survival rate as almost all saw extensive service use. Many on the Eastern front, an example in original condition is among the most desirable Nazi Luger pistols. This example is classified as Sub-variation 4 the last version of this model that was produced, with only approximately 1,830 each of the estimated 10,930 K-date Luger pistols that had the Sub-variation 4 markings. It has the standard Script "K" date mark on top of the chamber area with the last pattern Gothic "S/42" on top of the front toggle. This example properly has only the Gothic "S" marked toggle with the standard serialization of the various parts with no other Script/Gothic marks. These pistols are found in the 9,100-930a serial number range, putting this example higher than those listed in Jan Stills book on "Third Reich Luger". The German Army boxed "B90" and "S91" acceptance stamps along with an early Mauser Eagle firing proof is located on the right side of the barrel extension. The pistol has a "Type 1 Army" magazine with a nickel plated body and aluminum base stamped with serial number, "7714/a/+" over a boxed "B90" acceptance stamp.

Rating Definition:

Fine with 40% plus of the original rust blued finish with even honest wear on the entire pistol, with more actual finish loss on the grip straps. The various small parts retain 30% of their straw colors. The grips are in very good condition with even honest wear across the tops of the checkering. This pistol has all matching numbers except the magazine. Now most beginning collectors would think that a Luger in this condition would not seem that desirable, however almost all of this specific model, when encountered are either in poor condition or have been poorly refinished, or both. This is an opportunity to obtain a fine, representative, scarce "K-Date" Luger pistol.
