This revolver was manufactured circa 1894 and was a historically important model for Colt. This model was the first double action revolver that Colt produced with a swing out cylinder. Colt produced approximately 31,000 of these revolvers from 1889 to 1894 and is marked "COLT'S PT F.A.MFG.CO. HARTFORD CT.U.S.A./PATENTED AUG. 5TH 1884 NOVEMBER 6TH 1888." on top of the barrel and "COLT. D.A. 38" on the left side. The circled Rampant Colt is marked on the left rear of the frame. The assembly number "610" is marked on the frame, crane, cylinder release and the serial number is marked on the butt. Standard blade front and "U" frame notch rear sights, all blue finish with fire blue trigger, grip screw and hammer top with polished sides and fitted checkered rubber grips with "COLT" in an oval on both sides.
