Description:

This is an extraordinarily rare all original "Prototype" Luger DWM 1900 pistol made with a special 6 3/4 inch, rapid taper barrel and matching prototype, "push-button" shoulder stock. All of these early prototype Lugers were made with unique, individual aspects on each pistol with no two being exactly alike. These pistols were all numbered with a special, five-digit type serial number, in the 10000 range, with this specific example being numbered "10034". As noted, this prototype pistol has a very unique 6 3/4 inch fast taper barrel that has the full serial number stamped on the underside, which is also matching to frame. Additionally the underside of the barrel is stamped "172.28", indicating the number of lead balls of this size that it takes to weigh one pound. The other rare/unique aspect of this prototype pistol is that the heel or lower back strap area has been machined for a stock lug (which had not been made before) and the pistol has been fitted with the very rare, matching numbered, "push button" prototype attaching iron and original flat board style, shoulder stock. This "push-button" prototype attaching iron, was the original design, that was later discarded in favor of the later locking lever type mechanism. There were not more than a couple of these push-button prototype stock attaching irons ever manufactured, certainly making it as rare as the pistol itself. The pistol itself has the early style dished toggles with toggle lock on the right side, grip safety and early flat/recessed breech bolt. The barrel is correctly proofed with the commercial "B,U,G" proofs with the "B,U" proofs on receiver, breechblock and front toggle link. The thumb safety is second type with short domed checkered pad and it has narrow trigger and grip safety pad. This beautiful prototype Luger is fitted with matching numbered full checkered wood grips with an original unmarked wood base magazine. Comes with a black leather holster with shoulder strap and original cleaning rod with oiler. The consignor notes that this pistol apparently came out of Chile in 1990 according to an accompanying certificate from the Banco De Pruebas De Chile, and bears an overlaying "B" and "P" in a shield on the right side of the frame that matches the Banco De Pruebas symbol on the certificate.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The pistol retains 97% plus original blue finish, with 90% plus of the original straw color on the small components. All of the numbers match, (including the attaching iron as noted above), except for the magazine and the hold open and firing pin are properly un-numbered. The grips are also excellent with only a couple of chipped diamonds, showing extremely minor light wear, sharp checkering and an attractive wood grain showing through. The magazine is near mint with some light wear. The stock is also excellent with only light handling and storage marks. The holster and straps are sound with light flaking and show little wear with a crackled surface. Cleaning rod/oiler are excellent. The mechanics are crisp. This extremely rare prototype Model 1900 Luger pistol/shoulder stock rig are museum quality and suitable for even the most discerning and advanced collector.
