Cased Pair of Unknown Copies of Henry Deringer Philadelphia Pocket Pistols with A.J. Taylor (San Francisco) Agent Markings and Accessories

A) A.J. Taylor Agent Marked Deringer Pocket Pistol

Born in Mississippi and establishing himself in San Francisco as a Deringer Agent in 1854, Andrew J. Taylor's career was cut short on 25 September 1858, when an accidental discharge caused by a customer testing a Colt revolver ended his life. German silver blade front and notch rear sights with a "P" inside zig-zag lines on the upper left flat of the breech, "DERINGER/PHILADELA" on top and "MANd FOR/A.J. TAYLOR & Co./SAN FRANCo CALa." on the barrel flat. "DERINGER/PHILADELa" is marked on the lock plate. Scroll engraving is visible on the tang, hammer, lock and trigger guard. Checkered bird's head stock with German silver furniture and an ebony ramrod. With a purple felt lined hardwood case, which contains both pistols in the lot, a bullet mold/sprue cutter, wood handled screwdriver, small powder flask, ramrod/ball extractor, nipple wrench/oiler, a small powder measure and a paper container of J. Goldmark percussion caps.

ConditionGood as restored, with a mixed brown patina overall, showing some mild pitting and handling marks on the steel, with some light scratches on the German silver. The retailer markings have been added later. The stock is good as cleaned, with a thin crack on the left side near the screw and mild dents. The case is fine, with some loose dividers, stains and scuffs. Mechanically very good.
