Description:

This is a Milanese circa 1570-1580. The skull is a 1-piece forging of laminated steel with decorative etching in the pisan style with 4 ovals showing a soldier in uniform. There are rivets with decorative brass washers around the bottom edge. Measures 8 inches tall x 8 3/4 inches wide x 10 1/2 inches long. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Rating Definition:

Good, there is a gray/brown patina overall with some scattered minor pitting. There is some chipping near the "stem", a 1 inch crack on the brim, a couple minor dents, 1 rivet is missing and there is an extra hole near the missing rivet. A fine example of the armorer's art.
