Description:

This is an early 17th century munitions grade infantry half suit of armor with a light cavalry helmet. The lobstertail pot helmet is composed of a one-piece forged skull with the brim and four lamed articulating tail riveted to the skull. Inside the skull is painted a "4" and an "8". The ear flaps have three riveted leather straps that are riveted to the skull. There is a sliding nasal guard that passes through the brim. At the very top of the helmet is a button rivet. The gorget, pauldrons, breastplate, backplate and tassets are all forged and have a matching number "5" painted on the inside of each piece. The tassets do not match but both appear to be of the period. The coulet is a later addition.

Rating Definition:

Good, all of the components have a dark brown patina overall. A protective lacquer coating covers most of the exterior with scattered scratches and some minor dings. The interior has some areas of oxidation. Most of the buff leather is modern with some original pieces remaining. There are a few spots of absent material on the articulating tail of the helmet. The are a couple different types and ages of leather overall with some pieces torn and detached.
