Description:

Measuring 42 3/4 inches overall, with a 29 3/4 inch blade, showing 3 mekugi-ana on the tang, which is signed on both sides. Both the hilt and scabbard are adorned in full coverage polychrome enamel cloisonne, showing chiefly floral patterns, some geometric designs, along with alternating panels of dragons on speckled red and yellow backgrounds and ho-oh birds on blue backgrounds. The dragon and ho-oh are deeply associated with the Emperor and Empress of Japan, respectively and the combination of the two is considered a symbol of martial harmony and bliss. Included with the mounts are an interwoven purple and white suspension cord and a blue tassle on the hilt.

Rating Definition:

Very good overall. Some mild spotting and handling marks are present on the blade, which shows a fair state of polish. Some fittings are absent, including the tsuba and the final section of the saya is loose from the main body. The level of cloisonne present on the mounts is incredible; aside from two fingerprint sized absences at the tip of the saya, and some minor handling marks and air bubbles, all of the enamel and wire is present and accounted for. The saya, will however, come apart in the center. A quality blade with superb mounting.
