U.S. Springfield Model 1898 Krag Bolt Action Rifle with Bayonet

Manufactured in 1902. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S." over "MODEL 1898 SPRINGFIELD ARMORY" and the serial number. Blade front and tangent rear sights and mounted with a smooth straight grip stock, with a sharp "J.S.A./1902" cartouche on the left side ahead of the wrist, "55" over a circled script "P" on the underside behind the trigger guard and a flat buttplate with compartment containing a three piece cleaning rod and oiler. The rifle comes with a leather sling, "U.S." marked 1902 dated Model 1892 bayonet with metal scabbard and hanger.

ConditionVery fine. The rifle retains 90% original blue finish with some thinning on the barrel, and some flaking on the barrel bands and trigger guard. The remaining parts retain 85% muted original case color with a mix of smooth dove gray patina. The stock is also excellent with a few minor dings and handling marks. The cartouche is sharp. The markings remain crisp and clear. The action is excellent. The bayonet is excellent with the metal remaining bright showing a few small areas of discoloration and some scratches from being pulled from the scabbard. The scabbard and hanger are very good retaining almost all of the original blue finish and showing some minor oxidation. The sling is very good.
