Desirable Spanish American War U.S. Springfield Model 1896 Bolt Action Carbine

Manufactured between 1896 and 1898, these carbines were used throughout the Spanish American War and during the early 1900s until the development of the 1903 Springfield rifle. The left side of the receiver is marked "U.S./1896. SPRINGFIELD ARMORY." next to serial number. Blade front sight with an ivory bead and folding ladder rear sight graduated to 1,800 yards. Mounted with a one-piece straight grip stock with a circled "P" behind the lower tang, finger groove forearm and early hand guard with the barrel band that protects the rear sight.

ConditionVery good. The carbine retains 40% original thin blue finish on the barrel with a smooth plum patina on the balance. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth brown patina with traces of dark original blue finish in the protected areas. The stock is good overall with a large chip absent around the front saddle ring base and overall a few minor scratches and dings. The markings are clear. The action is excellent.
