This gun has a cut down rifle stock as it has the rifle cartouche "J.S.A /1900"; there is also a "64" and encircled "P" cartouche under the wrist. The receiver is marked with the standard two line U.S. Springfield Model 1898 rifle address on the left. Gun has a front fixed blade sight and an adjustable rear sight. Left side of the hand guard is hand carved "LEON SPENCER" in block letters. Smooth steel buttplate with hinged compartment containing a cleaning rod and oiler; buttplate tang is marked "L S".
