Description:

This is just a fantastic example of an early, pre-World War II Winchester Model 70 rifle in 30-06 caliber manufactured in 1936 at an original purchase cost of $61.25. The rifle is equipped with a Lyman 31 W front sight on a #1 ramp with removable cover and a Winchester 22 G rear sight. The receiver is tapped for scope/sight mounting. There is correctly no safety pin in the bolt and the bolt handle has the correct carbonium blue finish. The polished bolt is numbered to the gun and the rifle has the blue bolt tag numbered to the gun. Pre-war safety, cloverleaf receiver tang and pre-war receiver. Standard markings including the Winchester factory oval proof on the left side of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The straight comb pistol grip stock features checkering on the forearm and grip area, sling swivels and checkered steel buttplate. With the rifle are the following Winchester items: three boxes of Winchester .30-06 cartridges, 1937 Winchester catalog list the then new model 70 on page 7, 1937 Winchester retail price list with the then new Model 70 on the cover, a rare original controversial Winchester ad, and Model 70 instruction booklet with serial number 4 on the cover. Also with the rifle is a November 1936 The American Rifle featuring a detail story of the Model 70.

Rating Definition:

Excellent plus. The rifle retains 99% plus original blue finish showing only the slightest handling marks. The stock is also excellent with a few very scattered light handling marks with crisp checkering. Do not miss your chance in acquiring the finest pre-war Model 70 rifle RIAC has ever offered! If you want to own just one of these pre-war Model 70s, here it is!
