Freeman Army Model percussion single action revolver that was manufactured by Hoard's Armory, Watertown, New York, c. 1863-64. Hoard's Armory manufactured approximately 2,000 of these .44 caliber revolvers but received no Federal contracts. The solid frame revolver has a blue barrel, frame and cylinder with casehardened loading lever and hammer. The two-piece black walnut grips are oil-finished. The revolver has a round barrel with steel half-moon sight, sighting groove in the top strap and knurled hammer. The center pin latch is retained by a spring on the left side of the frame. "FREEMAN'S PAT. DECR 9 1862" is stamped on the right side of the top strap and "HOARD'S ARMORY, WATERTOWN, N.Y." is stamped on the left side. The matching serial number "1040" is stamped on the bottom of the barrel, top of the loading lever, bottom of the frame and rear face of the cylinder.

Very good plus. The revolver shows moderate handling and firing wear and retains 30% of the original blue finish. The balance of the revolver has a dark blue-brown patina. There are scattered patches of light pitting on the frame and cylinder and minor scratches and handling marks on all components. The grips are very good overall with moderate handling wear. The frame markings and serial numbers are clear. The center pin latch pin spring does not retain the pin properly and the cylinder turns with difficulty. This is a good example of a uncommon Civil War era percussion revolver.
